Programs

AGTTGP's programs are focused mainly on health and higher education

Education
The educational system in Ghana has evolved over the last two decades in positive ways, greatly increasing the number of Ghanaians who obtain junior and senior secondary school education. However, higher education (diploma and degree university programs) still remains a major problem for underdeveloped communities partly because of lack of resources to prepare students to achieve qualifying grades and partly because of lack of parental financial resources to pursue higher education for qualifying students. These communities are usually located in impoverished parts of cities and/or in villages.

In recognition of these problems and playing a part in the solution process, AGTTGP has made it a primary mission to provide assistance to access to higher education for qualifying students. Every year, AGTTGP will select a group of qualifying students and award scholarships that will include disbursement for room and board, books and fees as long as there is proof of acceptance into any discipline in a university in Ghana.

In addition, AGTTGP has a keen interest in assisting schools in these communities meet their standards although there is no active program to support this program at this time.

Health
AGTTGP has a keen interest in health education and promotion of these communities as well. Our primary program is organizing health fairs, where the association and its collaborators get the opportunity to interact with the local community. This interaction is aimed at achieving the following goals
  • Educate the community on local health needs
  • Inform the community on prevention of common diseases
  • Screen for diabetes and hypertension
  • Referral for appropriate healthcare
We believe this program will have a positive impact on such communities and so the plan is to expand this program as more funds avail. The establishment of community testing centers for common disease is in the long range plan and will be realized as more funds available.
