AGTTGP-NA SPONSORS PURCHASE OF HEALTH INSURANCE FOR THE PEOPLE OF NKRAMOM, GHANA

Nkramom is a small underdeveloped community on the outskirts of Techiman, in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. As part of our mission to support and conduct charitable health and education activities in underdeveloped communities, AGTTGP-NA collaborated with IDBGA-GH to pay the premium for the health insurance coverage for the people of this community. AGTTGP-NA donated an amount of $2,000 in support of the program.

In the past, our two organizations had undertaken medical outreach programmes and the provision of wells among others to some deprived communities. This time, the IDBGA-GH/AGTTGP-NA arranged for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to register, at least, 500 people at Nkramom and neighboring communities on Saturday, December 13, 2014. A total of 494 people were registered onto the scheme. The beneficiaries can now receive medical attention at all public and some private health facilities at no cost for a whole year. IDBGA-GH/AGTTGP-NA plan to renew the policy by paying the premium for the beneficiaries for the next four (4) years.

During the period of the registration, the Manager of NHIS for the Techiman Municipality, Mr. Augustine Appau, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the people and the way the exercise was being conducted. The exercise was really popular and attracted a large number of people from other communities from villages much farther away from Nkramom (the original target community). It was interesting to note that people came from neighbouring communities like Krobo, Akrofuom and Arowa. The attendance at the function was so good that the Manager of the NHIS in-charge of the exercise, who had expected a much lower attendance, had to arrange for more registration cards from Techiman to help in the exercise. IDBGA-GH was represented by a three member team who travelled to the community and participated in the exercise.
